Post All Star break betting tactics

With the NBA All Star weekend coming up, the home straight for NBA bettors is in sight. Now it’s time to get smart around your strategy as the big names battle it out for playoff position

Trust in the Bucks even if you don’t

I see you there, fully convinced the Golden State Warriors are going to repeat. I understand but hear me out. You can have that view and still be fully on board with the Milwaukee Bucks. There are markets out there with the Bucks at 12/1 which is absolutely ludicrous. The bookies are just leaving far too much room to count on Milwaukee as an insurance bet to go with the team you truly believe in, if it’s not Milwaukee, as you plan for the playoffs.

With that in mind

The NBA MVP race has gotten awfully streaky of late which is an absolute boon to Bucks bettors. James Harden has raced into an odds-on standing but, this is a marathon not a sprint. As Chris Paul’s health improves, so does Harden’s share of the load and that will bring eyes back to the one true unquestioned MVP candidate. Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek Freak, has been the front runner this season but books currently have him at 3/1. He’s only going to get shorter after the All Star Game. Be smart and grab the value now.

Stop and have a think

The All Star break is also a good time to go back over your NBA betting primer and work out exactly what your plan is for the season as a whole. Naturally, you’re going to have your game to game plays but the longer term bets will require a bit more thought so don’t rush in without taking the time to think it through.

Be patient with the Warriors

The Dubs are currently fielding a legitimate All Star starting line-up. Boogie Cousins is using this season as a chance to get a ring and audition for a max contract somewhere else all at once, and it’s working.

That means they are already being priced as presumptive champions. Right now, they are around 5/11 on most markets, which is fine. They aren’t going to come in much at all during the Western Conference Playoffs so you won’t need to make a call until during the conference finals. Once it becomes clear who is coming out of the Eastern Conference, you’ll have a good idea about what it will do to the odds. If it’s the Bucks, well you can just wait and get the Warriors before the finals. If it looks like the Sixers or Celtics, they’ll come in a bit, whereas with the Celtics they won’t come in anywhere near as much as they should so you should buy early.

Finally, rookie of the year

The best odds right now are 1/50 so it’s going to be Luka Doncic.
